Two San Diegans identified in deadly I-10 crash east of Indio

The two people who were killed in a single-vehicle crash on the 10 Freeway Saturday were identified by the county coroner’s office Sunday.

Henry Gutierrez, 70, and Pamela Gutierrez, 64, both of San Diego, were the two people inside the vehicle, which crashed into the center divider of the westbound Interstate 10 near Chiriaco Summit, about 30 miles east of Indio, according to a coroner’s office report.

The California Highway Patrol received the first reports of the crash at 3:53 p.m. Saturday, and Riverside County Firefighters were on scene at 3:56 p.m., said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

At least one of the car’s occupants had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters, however both died at the scene.
