Man faces attempted murder charge after Palm Springs stabbing

A man is recovering at the hospital after being stabbed by an acquaintance near the Circle K at East Arenas Road and South Calle Encilia in Palm Springs Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Mike Kovaleff with the Palm Springs Police Department, an officer was flagged down by witnesses around 9:20 a.m. while patrolling the area.

The suspect, 53-year-old transient Jose Conde Jr., is accused of using a knife to try and stab the victim at least twice. He allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper arm and then fled on foot. He was arrested soon after. The knife used in the stabbing was also recovered, according to police.

Conde Jr. was later taken to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. He’s facing charges of attempted murder and for violating probation, officers said in a release.

The victim is in stable condition.

The crime scene area was closed to the public during the investigation and officers closed Arenas Road to traffic.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 heard from witnesses on the scene that the victim was a member of the homeless community as well.
