Woman killed by train allegedly called Uber for ride before committing suicide
A woman has died after being hit by a Union Pacific train in North Palm Springs around 11:30 a.m., and according to a spokesperson for Union Pacific, she allegedly called an Uber driver to be dropped off at the train tracks before committing suicide.
Authorities were called to I-10, south of Garnett Road.
According to Francisco Castillo, a spokesman for Union Pacific, the woman asked to be taken to a Union Pacific freight station, but gave no indication at that time she wanted to kill herself. The driver instead took her to an Amtrak station, then got out to help her locate a train schedule.
“At that time, she advised him that she was suicidal,” Castillo said.
After leaving the woman, the driver drove to the Palm Springs Police Department to report the incident, but by the time police arrived at the scene, it was too late, Castillo said.
The train has been parked along the tracks while the Union Pacific Police Department investigates.
