Man arrested for drunk driving after crashing into semi truck
A 23-year-old man from Indio was treated at the hospital and then booked into the Riverside County Jail early Friday morning after officers said he crashed into a semi-truck while driving drunk in Coachella.
The crash happened at about 2:45 a.m. on Grapefruit Boulevard, just north of Mitchell Drive, according to police.
Alejandro Sierra is accused of rear-ending the semi-truck in the northbound lanes of Grapefruit Boulevard. After the collision, his car came to a rest on the east side of the embankment after sustaining major damage, officers with the Coachella Police Department said in a release.
The driver of the semi-truck wasn’t injured in the collision.
Sierra was unconscious in the driver seat of his car with the airbags deployed following the crash. He was awakened and transported to Desert Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.
Officers said he was arrested at the hospital and was booked into the county jail in Indio for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
The Coachella Police Department urges all drivers not to drink and drive. To report suspected drunk drivers, you should call 911.
