Valley girl gets unusual birthday wish

A local 7-year-old girl got her birthday wish Thursday.

She gave the homeless a hot meal and sweet treats.
Veronika Romero, who’s going into second grade, served pizza, ice cream and candy to folks in need at Martha’s Village and Kitchen in Indio.

“She asked me to give the needy some food. It’s all she wanted to do for her birthday,” said Veronika’s mother, Mona. “I was surprised at first of course, and really proud of her,” “Yeah, really, really, really proud of her.”

She hopes her daughter sets an example for her siblings and other children her age.

Veronika said she wanted to go to Martha’s for her birthday “because I believe sharing is caring.”

The birthday girl’s community service and big heart left many at Martha’s Village happy and smiling.

“I just want to thank Martha’s for having us here and letting her fulfill her birthday wish,” said Mona Romero.
