Masked man robs Cathedral City Goodwill store

A masked man robbed a Cathedral City Goodwill store at gunpoint last week.

At 9:37 p.m. Thursday, the unidentified man brought a black semi-automatic pistol into the Goodwill store at 67555 East Palm Canyon Drive and forced the employees into an office.

No one was physically hurt.

The man got an employee to open an office safe for him, allowing him access to an undisclosed amount of cash. He ran away before officers were able to arrest him.

According to Haas, the suspect was last seen wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, a black mask, black gloves, and navy sweatpants. No surveillance video was available to aid detectives.

Haas said typically, traveling in groups is safer, although it wasn’t the case here.

“Constantly be aware of surroundings when arriving or leaving work. Don’t hesitate to call police if something or someone seems suspicious,” he added.

The robbery happened just over an hour before a man was shot in the Whispering Palms neighborhood of Cathedral City.

Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to contact Detective Al Holloway at (760) 770-0313 or email the department at info@cathedralcity.gov.
