Coroner identifies victim of fatal collision in Palm Springs

A senior citizen was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Palm Springs Monday morning.

92-year-old Zimny Raymond was killed when his car was broadsided by a tow truck.

The collision occurred just after 10 a.m. in the 1100 block of Ramon Road, when Raymond pulled out of an apartment complex near Ramon and Thornhill roads and was struck by the tow truck, according to Sgt. William Hutchinson.

The tow truck driver and passenger in the tow truck weren’t hurt in the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation to determine who was at fault. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as the investigation continues.

Ramon Road was closed for about four hours between Avenida Caballeros and Sunrise Way for the crash investigation.

Windy conditions led to some problems on the road Monday, including a big rig that overturned on Highway 111, forcing a full closure of southbound lanes for about an hour or so. Tow truck and a smaller sedan.
