Cathedral City begins construction on CV Link bike path

Cathedral City has begun construction on the Whitewater Bike Path, which makes up a portion of the CV Link. This is the first construction project that has taken place on the proposed CV Link.

According to a CVAG Staff Report, the project was expedited so CV Link grant funds from the South Coast Air Quality Management District can be used for the project’s construction.

According to the staff report, on September 28, 2015, the Executive Committee voted to authorize the Executive
Director to enter into a cooperative agreement with Cathedral City to complete the Cathedral City Bike Path, which is planned on the west bank of the Whitewater River Channel between Vista Chino Drive and Ramon Road.

The Cooperative Agreement, with Cathedral City acting as the lead agency, was executed on November 16, 2015. Cathedral City hired the same design and environmental consulting firms that are working on CV Link so that the Cathedral City Bike Path would be designed consistent with CV Link standards.

The City paid for the design and environmental work with Caltrans Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) grant funds.
