49 passengers, driver, safe after bus fire on I-10

We are following reports of a tour bus fire that shut down multiple lanes Thursday afternoon on the I-10 West near Main Street in Cabazon.

The tour bus was traveling from Joshua Tree National Park and heading to the Cabazon Outlets when the bus caught fire around 3:08 p.m.

The driver pulled the bus over after hearing a light pop from the engine. While inspecting, the driver noticed smoke in the rear of the bus, then evacuated everybody off the bus.

All 49 passengers were not injured, according to California Highway Patrol.

Crews have opened most lanes, except for one.

The bus company is L.A. Coach, the trip started from Laughlin, Nevada and it’s destination was a hotel in Buena Park.

The driver told CHP deputies that the bus was brand new.

No word on what caused the fire.
