Indio native reported missing in San Pedro, unidentified body found near search area

A 26-year-old San Pedro woman from Indio has been reported missing. According to KABC, crews found the body of an unidentified woman near the search scene early this morning.

Haley Downen was born in Indio and moved to Orange County at the age of 6, according to a family member. Some of her family still lives in Pal m Desert.

The body was discovered at 7:43 a.m. in the 1800 block of Paseo Del Mar in San Pedro, Los Angeles. The coroner’s office is yet to identify the body.

Haley Downen’s family last heard from her on Saturday evening. She was last seen hiking the shoreline trail between Royal Palms Beach and Trump National Golf Course in San Pedro, Los Angeles at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

Downen was reportedly traveling with a friend on Saturday, according to Sue Clark, Downen’s aunt. Patrol officers found “items of personal property” belonging to Haley during their search on the trail.

Downen is described as a 5′ 2″ white female with blonde hair, green eyes, and a small build, and a tattoo on her left leg, according to a Los Angeles County Police news release.

“Haley has lived…[in the Coachella Valley]…on and off her whole life,” a family friend told KESQ & CBS Local 2. “She is very well known out here and very loved. She may have contacted someone out here before going missing. ”

Search efforts are being conducted along the San Pedro coastline by the Los Angeles County Police Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department. L.A. County Fire has employed a dive team in its efforts.

The L.A. County Police Department’s harbor division was on the scene Saturday night, according to Sue Clark.

“They had helicopters, they had boats, they had search teams out here on the rocks at night,” Clark said.

Family and friends formed a 30-person party to conduct their own search on Tuesday. They plan to continue their search efforts later this week.
