Women United hosting “We Hear You” event

Many people across the nation have been shaken by the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, among other accusations of sexual assault that have been reported within the past year. One local group, Women United, is hosting an event Tuesday, October 2, at 6pm for any and all women who “may be feeling unheard, unseen, and shaken from the events of the last two weeks,” according to the event Facebook page.

“In the climate that we’re in currently now…our united group was hearing a lot from women here locally just about feeling some of the stress feeling some of the unease,” said Kristal Granados, the executive director for United Way of the Desert.

The group plans to meet at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert from 6-7pm, at the pavilion to the east of the amphitheater, providing camaraderie and support for anyone who may need it.

“It’s a non-political event. It’s really just to support women who may be feeling unease or maybe just want to reach out to other women and share either an experience or just some ideas about how we can support one another through self care, mental and physical wellbeing, good health and just show the value that women can come together,” said Granados.

Dr. Jeralyn Brossfield, a local functional medicine doctor, will also be speaking about self care and teaching practical exercises to reduce stress and anxiety.

“When we are going through times that makes us feel uncertain, I’ve noticed that a lot of people are more anxious or depressed with so much change or division in our country. So it’s really important that we find ways to nurture ourselves,” said Dr. Brossfield.

Dr. Brossfield says it can be as simple as engaging in physical activity or taking a few minutes a day to take a deep breath: “Some of the talk tonight will be about ways to practically put self care into place in a way that fits in your life without overwhelming you.”

Event coordinators say there is no need to RSVP and anyone is welcome.
