Former LQ head coach Dan Armstrong facing old team in high school football game of the week

Dan Armstrong had a successful 23 seasons as the head coach for La Quinta football. He brought the Blackhawks multiple league titles and two CIF championships in 2000 and 2001.

But a messy divorce after the 2017 season has Armstrong now at Shadow Hills high school as an assistant under head coach Ron Shipley.

This Friday, Armstrong will face his old team for the first time in our featured high school football game of the week. Opposing Armstrong and the Knights’ sideline will be first-year head coach Patrick Rivenes, who played quarterback for Armstrong at LQ.

This game has been circled on the calendar by many fans in the area, especially former La Quinta football players who played for Armstrong.

The Knights come in at 0-1 in league, after a loss versus Palm Desert. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are 1-0 after a win at Rancho Mirage.
