I-Team Report: “Sheriff Showdown”
The battle for Riverside County sheriff is turning into an expensive grudge match with each candidate raising more than $1 million dollars.
Voters will be choosing between the incumbent Sheriff Stan Sniff and Lt. Chad Bianco.
It’s a race that’s creating a divide inside the department with Bianco gaining more than $850,000 in support from the Riverside Sheriffs’ Association.
Look up campaign fundraising information
Bianco aired campaign ads that show the rank and file supporting him and calling for change.
Sniff insists that the campaign is a million-dollar smear against him by the union leadership, claiming that 75% of the rank and file support him.
While Sniff criticizes Bianco’s union support, he too is getting some large donations including $100,000 from Palm Springs philanthropist Harold Matzner.
Sniff said he’ll have other large individual donors coming forward in the coming weeks ahead.
