Xavier Prep offering counseling after students injured in crash
Schools leaders are offering counseling and resources after three Xavier College Preparatory High School students were injured in a rollover crash this weekend.
“Through our faith we’re able to connect with one another and be a support to one another,” Xavier Prep learning specialist Andrea St. Ogne said.
Students Matthew Shupp, Jaylen Rushin and Kai Killebrew were injured when their car flipped over early Saturday morning in Indio.
On Monday, their school provided counselors for students to talk with during this emotional time. The school also made it possible for students to make cards.
“It’s kind of been great to sit with the students making cards because we can share memories and we can talk about how grateful we are,” St. Ogne said.
This accident, however, is affecting more than just the students attending the school.
Students from crosstown rival Palm Desert High School showed their support by dropping off balloons and a signed banner.
“This is about being human. This gets us right back to the best parts of who we are,” Xavier College Prep Principal Chris Alling said.
“We’re all pulling for these kids. I know down the street they are. These kids have friends all down the valley,” Alling said.
