Man walking on I-10 in Beaumont struck, killed

BEAUMONT, Calif. – A man was struck by three vehicles and killed while walking on Interstate 10 in Beaumont, the California Highway Patrol said today.

The crash occurred at 1:43 a.m. Saturday on the eastbound side of the freeway, just east of the 60 Freeway merge, the CHP said.

Taylor J. Matich, 28, of Calimesa, was walking east on the freeway near the median when he was hit by a vehicle in the left lane, according to the CHP. The impact threw him into the No. 3 lane where he was struck by two more vehicles.

Matich was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver who first struck Matrich was not arrested, according to a CHP report.

It was not clear why Matrich was walking on the freeway, and an investigation into the crash by the CHP is underway.
