Palm Springs is moving closer to a possible roundabout in the S Palm Canyon Drive area.

Councilmembers discussed the project during Thursday's meeting. The council approved a $236,174 purchase order for civil engineering design services.

According to city documents, the roundabout would be at the intersection of S Palm Canyon Drive / Indian Canyon Drive / Camino Parocela. Construction would turn the area into a five-legged intersection.

The city hopes to use the design to obtain grants that will help fund the project.

"Following final design, staff will review the construction estimate and present to Measure J Commission and City Council for consideration of funding through various sources, including Gas Tax, Measure A, Measure J, or the Capital Fund," writes Marcus L. Fuller, Palm Springs assistant city manager & city engineer.

If all goes according to plan, construction could start sometime during the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
