Riverside County Sheriff’s Department hosts job fair

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department hosted a job fair at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio giving job seekers a chance to start a career with them. The facility is located off of Highway 111.

Camille Montemayor, a Coachella Valley resident, said she decided to go with hopes of getting back into the workforce.

“I graduated right before the pandemic hit so it kind of put a halt on job searching, you know, I had to stay home with my kids for school, but you know, now things seem to be looking up," said Montemayor. “I want to just learn as much as I can and grow and move up and just get as much knowledge as I can, you know.”

She said she hopes to find a position related to accounting since that’s what she went to school for. Each tent at the fair had different recruiters ready to answer any questions from the community.

“The sheriff's department has nothing but career growth and opportunities. This is a great place to work," said Sheriff's Department spokesperson Deanna Pecoraro. “It's not just a job. This is a lifetime- benefits, medical, retirement, everything.”

The center is looking for more correctional deputies, cooks, food services workers, and other support staff. The department said not every position requires experience.

“We need everyone. Not just men, women, older, younger. We need everybody," said Pecoraro.

She said more people are needed to keep growing the center and house more people at the facility.
