Indian Canyon Dr. reopens. All three Palm Springs Whitewater wash crossings now open

Indian Canyon Drive was reopened to traffic Thursday morning at 9:07 a.m., according to Palm Springs Police. The reopening followed several days of a closure due to blowing sand, and means all three major Whitewater wash crossings are now open again easing congestion and access issues in and out of the city.

Gene Autry Trail reopened to traffic Thursday at 7:54 a.m., according to Palm Springs Police. Vista Chino Road is also open, so Indian Canyon Drive is the only roadway currently closed through the Whitewater Wash.

Update: May 8, 2024 - 5:00 AM

The City of Palm Springs closed Gene Autry Trail through the Whitewater wash Wednesday morning at 5:00 a.m. N. Indian Canyon Dr remained closed due to built-up sand drifts on the roadway. East Vista Chino remains open. Both roadways remained closed as of Thursday morning.

The City of Palm Springs reopened Gene Autry Trail through the Whitewater wash Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. N. Indian Canyon Dr remained closed due to built-up sand drifts on the roadway. E. Vista Chino was also open Tuesday morning.

Update: May 6, 2024 - 5:50 PM

The City of Palm Springs announced that N Indian Canyon and N. Gene Autry Road could be closed until at least Wednesday. The roads remain closed due to low visibility from blowing sand and sand build-up.

"Crews hope to start clearing the roads on Wednesday when the wind dies down," reads an announcement on the city's social media pages.

E Vista Chino remains open.

Here's a traffic alert to keep in mind if you're commuting in and out of Palm Springs.

Palm Springs Police report that both Gene Autry Trail and Indian Canyon Drive are closed at the wash.

The closures are due to blowing sand, built up on the popular stretches.

Vista Chino remains open, but you are asked to use caution and plan for more travel time if you plan to use this route.
