Firefighters are working on containing a fire that has burned 25 acres since it initially started Monday in Thermal.

The fire was reported at around 11:20 a.m. near Highway 86 and 72nd Avenue.

According to CAL FIRE, the blaze initially burned at a moderate rate with heavy fuel.

As of 1:30 p.m., the fire is spotting mulch, which is hindering firefighters' ability to control the blaze.

CAL FIRE officials said at around 4:00 p.m., that the fire was 25 contained. By Tuesday morning, the fire remained at 25 acres but containment increased to 32%.

"Firefighters are engaged in heavy mop-up within the fire perimeter. Resources are expected to remain on scene throughout the night and into tomorrow [Tuesday]," reads a CAL FIRE social media post.
