Another week of excessive heat

We are still dealing with a large and dominant ridge of high pressure over the southwest United States. This ridge is not likely to be displaced in the foreseeable future, leaving us with consistent high temperatures.

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in place for the Coachella Valley. This warning is set to expire at 8PM on Friday. We could see temperatures as high as 119°F, with temperatures mostly above 115° during this time.

While the ridge of high pressure remains dominant over the southwest, it has shifted toward the east over the last few days. This has allowed for southerly and southeasterly winds to pull more moisture into the valley. This is why we've begun to see some higher dewpoints and more cumulus clouds in the past seven days. However, gradual drying will continue this week as most of the moisture and storms are off to our East in Arizona.

Very hot temperatures persist through the second half of this week alongside the excessive Heat Warning. Beginning Sunday, we will see some more monsoonal moisture which will help keep temperatures milder heading into next week.
