Wanted man arrested for attempted murder of officer in Desert Center OIS

The California Highway Patrol reveals more details on officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning.

According to a news release by CHP, early Tuesday morning, officers received information that a suspect wanted by the San Francisco Police Department was possibly in the Southern California desert area.

The suspect, Hakim Price Oden , 20, was wanted for an assault that occurred in the San Francisco area.

At around 2:45 a.m. that same day, CHP officers saw an unoccupied vehicle that matched the description of one associated with Oden near the shoulder of Interstate 10, east of Corn Springs Road, near Blythe.

According to CHP, while officers inspected the vehicle, dispatch received reports of a man, later confirmed to be Oden , who was attempting to flag down vehicles on the highway.

CHP added that when officers attempted to make contact with Oden , he fled on foot. While pursuing Oden , an officer involved shooting occurred.

Following the shooting, Oden surrendered and was hospitalized with a minor injury. No other details have been released on the shooting, however, CHP did confirm no officers were injured during the incident.

Oden was arrested on two counts of attempted homicide on a peace officer and also faces assault charges in San Francisco. He is currently held without bail at the Indio Jail.
