Hispanic Heritage Month takes place each year from September 15 through October 15 as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and rich histories of the Latino community.
September 15 marks the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its Independence Day on September 16, followed by Chile on September 18.
For many years, Gulf California Broadcast Company has proudly celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month throughout the Coachella Valley, honoring the traditions, stories, culture, and people who make our community so special.
El Grito 2026
This year, Noticias Telemundo 15 continued the tradition of honoring Mexican Independence with a special El Grito Ceremony held at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The ceremony was recorded by the Noticias Telemundo 15 news team and will air on Telemundo 15 on September 16 at 5pm and September 19 at 6pm, giving viewers across the Coachella Valley an opportunity to experience this important cultural tradition from home.
El Grito is a powerful symbol of Mexican history and independence, commemorating the call made by Father Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 that helped launch Mexico’s fight for independence. Today, the tradition continues in communities throughout Mexico and the United States as a celebration of heritage, pride, and culture.
