First Alert Weather Alert: through Wednesday morning as rain disrupts travel
A Pacific storm system is moving through Southern California, bringing widespread rain and mountain snow. Expect higher rainfall totals in the Western Coachella Valley accompanied by gusty winds.
RAIN
A Flood Watch will remain in effect for areas west of the desert, including the Apple and El Dorado fire burn scars, through 7:00 a.m. Wednesday. Even without the watch for the valley floor, runoff and poor drainage have created issues for several motorists, stranding some and detouring others. Read more here.
As of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, rainfall amounts were impressive in the High Desert and San Gorgonio Pass. Much lighter amounts in the eastern Coachella Valley. This image will continue to be updated as new numbers are available.
The bulk of our rainfall occurred this afternoon and tonight, but remnants will linger through early Wednesday morning.
SNOW
A Winter Storm Warning is in place for San Bernardino and Riverside county mountains through Wednesday afternoon. The bulk of snowfall is expected late today and into Wednesday morning, when the snow level could drop as low as 5,000'. Most accumulation will occur above 6,000'. Strong winds and blowing snow will make for hazardous travel conditions.
WIND
A Wind Advisory is also in play, including the Coachella Valley, through 10:00 p.m. today. Tree limbs may be blown down, and power outages are possible.
Southerly winds will strengthen through the morning, likely peaking in the afternoon, especially in mountain areas and wind-prone spots.
Following the rain, much cooler temperatures settle in midweek. The mid-60s for daytime highs eventually warm back to the 70s by the weekend. Overnight low temperatures drop as low as the 40s.
