First Alert Weather Alert extended: Monitoring gusty and dusty conditions through Sunday

A First Alert Weather Alert has been extended through Sunday evening due to potentially damaging gusty winds. We are monitoring both air quality and visibility concerns through the rest of this weekend.

A Wind Advisory and High Wind Warning have been extended by the National Weather Service through 10 p.m. Sunday. Winds of 35-45 MPH will be out of the west with potential gusts up to 80 MPH.

South Coast AQMD has issued an Air Quality Alert for the Coachella Valley through this evening due to high levels of airborne dust and sand across the region. Consider spending time indoors today, and take extra caution on the roads. Steep drop offs in visibility are possible.

Winds will gradually weaken on Sunday as snow continues for the mountains to our south and west. A Winter Storm Warning has been extended through 2 p.m. Sunday. Heavy wet snow is expected with up to a foot of snow expected about 8000 ft. in elevation.

Calmer conditions will return by the start of the upcoming work week. There are early indications that rainfall may briefly return to the valley midweek. Warmer temperatures are expected late next week.
