Heat, coupled with some Monsoon Moisture, is the weather story over the weekend and into next week. The Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect today at noon and covers a wide swath of the Desert Southwest.

"Well its extremely hot and I really don't like it outside because when you try to play around or do something it gets extremely hot you start sweating alot," said Damian Vera, from Cathedral City.

"In water, drinking water, pouring water, then releasing lots of water," said Annelise Salgado, visiting from L.A.

These uncomfortable high temperatures on top of a pandemic makes it all the more challenging.

"With the mask it makes way hotter," said Damian Vera, Cathedral City.

"It's very hot, its exacerbated by these masks so we have definitely been hanging poolside as much as possible," said Kiersten Stevens, visiting from L.A.

And with these temperatures rising over the weekend, you might want to head to the  poolside too.

So we went around the valley to see what is open, the splash pad in La Quinta is closed and the Fountain of Life in Cathedral City also closed. The Palm Desert Aquatic Center closed as well but will reopen on August 20th.

Palm Springs Swim center is open but only through their reservation system.

"There are only 80 spots available a day and they seem to go pretty quickly and we are open to non-residents to make reservations but they are calling the same day they are looking to swim and space will be limited," said Cynthia Alvarado Crawford, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Palm Springs.

Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Palm Springs, Cynthia Alvarado Crawford said their smaller pool is open to families.

"To be rented out for family to come in and do some swim but we are limiting it to five family members and they all have to be all from that same household," said Cynthia Alvarado Crawford.

John Furbee Aquatics Center in Desert Hot Springs is also open to public.

And one last tip before you head out.

"Stay hydrated as much as possible and with that being said drink as much fluids as possible water and sports drinks but also avoid alcohol and avoid caffeine, sugary drinks cause all those are diuretics and will dehydrate you," said Nathan Gunkel, public information officer for Palm Springs Fire.
