First Alert Weather Alert: More rain and snow coverage for Saturday
A First Alert Weather Alert is in effect for Saturday in response to ongoing rain and snow. Low pressure off the coast is moving south. As it does so, tropical moisture is drawn in, increasing the amount of moisture in Southern California. This will be the most impactful winter storm we have experienced this season.
Blizzard conditions were seen in the San Bernardino County Mountains, but winds are weakening in the area. A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect for area mountains until Sunday morning. Heavy snow will make travel difficult to impossible in the mountains. Avoid travel except for emergencies.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for the valleys and foothills just west of the Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass. Scattered snow showers remain possible in these areas tonight. Drivers should be cautious of slick spots on the roads.
A Flood Watch will be in place below the snow line, as excessive runoff can lead to flooding. The watch extends through the San Gorgonio Pass into the Northern Coachella Valley.
Rain is expected through Saturday night with drier conditions for Sunday. Winds will increase with an onshore flow, getting gusty at times as we close out the weekend. Another round of winter weather looks possible for the middle of next week.
