Riverside County in need of volunteers to help with annual survey of homeless

Riverside County is looking for 700 volunteers to help with their annual ‘2020 Point in Time Count,’ the survey of homeless adults and youth in cities and unincorporated communities. 

The 2020 Point in Time count is planned for January 29th through January 31st. It allows cities to get an accurate read on the amount of funding they might need to find long-term solutions to homelessness. 

Last year’s count identified nearly 3,000 homeless adults and children -- a 21% increase from the year prior. 

Organizers say it’s really important to have the help of volunteers who really know their communities. On the day of, volunteers from nonprofits, churches and other groups fan out across the county to help. Training is required prior to participating. Volunteers need either a smartphone or tablet to conduct the survey and be able to walk up to two hours.
