Driver arrested for DUI after hit and run accident kills Palm Desert man

Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies were investigating a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian in Palm Desert Monday evening.

Deputies were alerted to the incident along Highway 111 at Deep Canyon Road at 9:30 p.m.

Authorities said 34-year-old Jamie Dodge, of Palm Desert, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old Palm Desert man, left the scene before first responders arrived but was later located in Beaumont and arrested.

The Sheriff Department says the driver showed signs of drug impairment and was subsequently arrested for felony hit and run, felony driving under the influence causing injury, and vehicular manslaughter, and was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio awaiting official charges.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of all eastbound lanes of Highway 111 at Deep Canyon Drive. The roadway has been reopened.
