KESQ

A man died after being struck by a vehicle in Cathedral City, police said today.

Officers responded at 10:16 p.m. Sunday to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Date Palm Drive near Victoria Road, according to a statement from the Cathedral City Police Department.

Upon arrival, the pedestrian was found dead at the scene, police said. He was identified by the Riverside County coroner's office only as a 66-year-old Cathedral City resident.

"The Cathedral City traffic unit responded and took over the investigation,'' police wrote in a statement. "During the investigation, it was determined the pedestrian was the at fault party."

The driver of the vehicle showed no signs of alcohol or drugs being involved, according to police.

Anyone with additional information on the collision was asked to call the police department at 760-770-0300.
