The Palm Springs Public Library is now equipped to process new passport applications, city officials announced Tuesday.

"The city of Palm Springs is delighted to be able to bring passport processing back to the public library and we expect this added program to become quite popular thanks to the ease and convenience," said Jeannie Kays, director of Library Services.

The passport service is only for new applications, not renewals, and is by appointment only, through an online appointment tool located on the library's website at www.palmspringslibrary.org.

Library staff can take passport photos for a $15 fee.

Applicants must fill out an application and bring proof of U.S. citizenship, including a certified birth certificate or a naturalization certificate; a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID card or military ID; and a passport photo taken within the last six months.

Applicants under 16 years of age require the consent of both parents.

For more information about applying for a passport, visit the library's website.

The Palm Springs Public Library is located at 300 S. Sunrise Way.
