Neighbors concerned over pot smell from Cathedral City cannabis cultivation facility
Brad Devine and his wife spend their winters at Outdoor Resorts Palm Springs in Cathedral City, but for the last few days they've noticed a strong marijuana smell coming from a cannabis cultivation site next door.
Devine said he and others in the area have reported their concerns to the City, but feel action has not been taken quickly enough to address the matter.
The City is aware of the situation and is currently working with the facility operator, CC Industry, LLC, on solutions. The site is located on Ramon Rd. and is adjacent to the RV community.
"The cultivation business is currently in construction. They're building out their facility and they have been bringing online some of their grow rooms, which I understand, is contributing to some of the odor impacts on adjacent properties," according to Andrew Firestine, Director of Development Services for the city of Cathedral City.
As part of the permitting and license, the business is required to install mitigation for odor.
"Through our inspection process of CC Industry, we are working with the property owner to ensure that they have the proper filtration systems in place in order to mitigate the odor impacts from their business," according to Firestine.
The City has not yet issued the business its certificate of occupancy. Firestine said he anticipates the issue to be addressed "in the coming weeks."
