Student Athlete of the Week – Paul Dreisbach
PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) - Palm Desert senior point guard Paul Dreisbach is this week's student athlete of the week.
"What he does really well is he kind of is bringing along our freshmen group, and he does things the right way," Aztecs head coach Justin Sobczyk said. "So he's setting the right example, and it's just you know, it's a pleasure to coach him. This is my second year having him, and it's been nothing but, you know, great times, and he's just such a great kid, and he's got such a bright future."
Dreisbach is automatic from three, shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc, thanks to his relentless work and drive for excellence. Â
"Just staying in the gym, getting shots up, getting skill, working with one of the best go coaches in the valley, Coach Martinez," Dreisbach said. "It just comes from that, getting confidence there, then bringing it on to the court and playing games."
Leading the Palm Desert in points, assists, and steals per game this season, Dreisbach approaches every game like it's his last.
"There might be times I get tired, but I'm going to go out there every day," Dreisbach said. "I mean, who knows? This could be the last year of basketball for me. Nothing's ever given to me, so I take everything for granted."
Being a one-time del champion, Coach Sobczyk believes that Dreisbach will have his name in the rafters someday.
"I think he's one of the better ones we've ever had," Aztecs head coach Sobczyk said. "I think he's got a chance to cement himself after the season as, you know, one of our best 5 to 7 players that have ever stepped foot on this campus simply because of his work ethic and his natural ability."
We are always looking for Student-Athlete of the Week nominations. If you know a senior who should be featured next, be sure to contact the KESQ sports department.
The Student-Athlete of the Week segment airs every Tuesday.
