Scottie Scheffler addresses media at American Express ahead of 2026 season debut

LA QUINTA, Calif. (KESQ) -- World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in the desert, ready to start his 2026 season on the PGA TOUR.

Scheffler enters this week's American Express as the favorite, but has never won in his previous five starts.

The 4-time major champion missed the American Express last year due to a hand injury, but is always happy to play here early in the season.

Scheffler won six times in 2025 and finished inside the top 25 in all 20 starts, with a season-high 17 top-10 finishes, including 15 straight.

The reigning four-time PGA TOUR Player of the Year has 19 victories and has won three of his last five starts.

The 29-year-old seeks to become first player since Tiger Woods to earn 20 PGA TOUR wins under the age of 30.

Scheffler finished T-17 at the Express Express in 2024, with his best result coming in 2020 when he placed third.

He is listed at +250 odds to win this week's tournament.
