American Express under contract to return amid reports of PGA TOUR schedule changes
LA QUINTA, Calif. (KESQ) -- The PGA TOUR has come and gone for the 67th time in the Coachella Valley.
The question is now, will the tournament return?
American Express executive director Pat McCabe hasn't been told otherwise, at least for now.
In fact, McCabe told News Channel 3 that they're under contract to host the tournament through 2028 and remains optimistic about continuing this longstanding event.
However, there are reports and rumors circulating around the PGA TOUR schedule for next season.
Given the ever-changing landscape of the sport, the PGA TOUR has a new CEO in Brian Rolapp. Under Rolapp's leadership, there's expectation for change, specifically as it pertains to the schedule.
If the TOUR decides to shorten the season, like some reports suggest, the American Express could be at risk of being taken off the schedule since it's early in the season and competes with the NFL playoffs.
The desert was the second stop on the PGA TOUR schedule this year.
Scottie Scheffler won by four shots, finishing at 27-under par. We'll see if the World No. 1 will get the chance to defend his title next year.
