Tracking monsoonal thunderstorms as cooldown approaches

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – Monsoonal thunderstorms are appearing again today. Instability and moisture continues to lend itself to their formation, but those chances should fall as we see drier and breezier weather Wednesday and beyond.

A Flash Flood Warning was issued just south of the Coachella Valley this afternoon as we continue to watch cells pass in our mountains. We're not seeing any impacts on the valley floor yet, but do note this warning included a small part of Highway 111 through the east end of the valley, near Thermal. It is in place through 4:00 p.m.

Thunderstorm potential continues this afternoon, but as we get past dinnertime, chances start to really drop off.

Do note that we could see some more gusty outflow winds as these cells pass us by.

Moisture remains a problem for us today. Things will continue to stay muggy this evening, but slight improvements are expected tomorrow as breezes start to pick up with more onshore flow.

This pattern will help cool us down; below average highs offer us some relief from the summer heat tomorrow.

We'll continue to see highs below 110°F for the rest of the week; in fact, we'll be closer to the 100°F mark into the weekend. Not bad for August!
