Tracking storm potential on a very muggy Monday; extreme heat continues this week

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – It's been a very muggy Monday. The extra moisture is helping aid the development of some monsoonal activity. A few cells have been bubbling up in the higher elevations. We're keeping an eye on some lightning strikes in the Santa Rosas and to our north, near Big Bear.

We're keeping an eye on any further rain chances. Our best shot remains before dinnertime. Potential drops off into the overnight hours.

The moisture sticks with us through the evening. Dew points today have been in the 60s and 70s.

Models are optimistic that we'll dry somewhat tomorrow, but I wouldn't be surprised if some moisture still sticks around. Regardless, it looks like an improvement compared to today.

The slightly drier conditions will help our temperatures rise through Tuesday. Expect hotter conditions with temperatures more firmly in the one-teens tomorrow.

Extreme heat continues as we heat up near 115°F on Wednesday and Thursday. The Extreme Heat Warning expires Friday. Early indications show some cooling is possible into next week, but for now, do your best to stay cool in this heat.
