The Living Desert renews autism-friendly certification

PALM DESERT, Calif. — (KESQ) — The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens has renewed its Certified Autism Center™ designation through IBCCES, reaffirming its commitment to accessible and inclusive experiences for autistic guests and their families.

The zoo, home to more than 600 animals representing 141 species, first earned the certification in 2022. For the renewal, at least 80% of guest-facing staff and management completed updated autism-specific training focused on communication, sensory needs and safety.

The Living Desert also offers sensory bags, noise-canceling headphones, mobility rentals, assistive listening devices and other accessibility accommodations.

The renewal supports Greater Palm Springs’ Certified Autism Destination designation and adds The Living Desert to IBCCES’ Accessibility App, which helps travelers find certified and sensory-friendly destinations.
