Cooler than usual Labor Day weekend ahead with a chance for some showers

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – We've made it to Friday ahead of the holiday weekend! We're tracking cooler than usual temps through Labor Day and drier conditions for now, though humidity is set to bump up as we track the impacts of Hurricane Marie.

Dew points through Friday will stay dry, but this evening and into Saturday, we expect to see a modest increase in our humidity. Dew points will likely jump into the 50s and 60s once again.

Temperatures through today look great. Highs will struggle to climb into the triple digits for most spots again as we stay about 6-7°F below seasonal. That's great news for our high school football teams playing tonight – it'll feel fabulous for everyone on and off the field tonight as temps fall into the 80s by the time games wrap up.

Now to the biggest part of the weather story: Hurricane Marie. It's track keeps it well southwest of the California coast, but expect higher surf if you're making your way to the beaches this weekend. As of Friday morning, it's maintaining its northwestward heading.

Marie will increase our humidity, so you'll notice it'll feel stickier this weekend. As for rain chances, we could see a few showers here and there. Current models indicate Sunday is the best shot to see rain locally. Saturday and Monday look relatively clear.

We'll be keeping a close eye on the rain potential through the weekend, but we don't foresee it ruining any of your long weekend plans. Highs will stay relatively comfortable through Labor Day ahead of warmer temps next week, closer to seasonal.
