Slight rain chances tonight; clearing and cooling on Monday

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – Cloudy skies and cooler temperatures have been the name of the game so far on Sunday. Monday presents sunnier skies, though temperatures look to cool further.

Here's a look at our Doppler radar as of Sunday afternoon. A couple of spots in the east valley saw some very light showers. While we've seen our fair share of clouds, most of the rain being drawn in from Odalys (now a post-tropical cyclone) is staying off to our east.

Most of the tropical flow is being directed toward Arizona, while Southern California remains on the outskirts.

The cloud cover and some light rain chances stick with us through the night. Our FutureTrack models show some activity in the east valley between 7 and 11 o'clock, before gradually clearing into Monday afternoon. Rain chances look minimal for Monday.

Hurricane Polo continues to inch closer to the Baja California coast. It's still expected to make landfall sometime on Monday. It's a Category 3 storm right now, but is expected to weaken to a Category 1-2 as it approaches the coast. Again, we won't be seeing any direct impacts from Polo here in the valley.

Our dew points have bumped up a bit today thanks to some of the moisture from Odalys. Most spots are reporting 50°F dew point temperatures. We should dry out into Monday as we clear out; dew points are likely to return back to the 40s.

Temperatures look to bottom out on Monday. Expect highs in the low 90s range for the desert floor. A warmup is expected as weak high pressure builds back in for the latter half of the week; we'll be a few degrees above seasonal with highs near the century mark.
