Traffic collision causes delays at Highway 111 and Thunderbird Road in Rancho Mirage

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA (KESQ) - A traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 111 and Thunderbird Road in Rancho Mirage is causing traffic delays Thursday afternoon, according to local authorities.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert advising motorists to avoid the area while an ongoing investigation takes place. Drivers should expect congestion and are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.

CAL FIRE reported the collision at approximately 4:28 p.m. Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle crash that resulted in major damage to one vehicle and moderate damage to the second vehicle.

One person was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, according to CAL FIRE.

Authorities are asking drivers to use caution in the area and allow additional travel time while the scene remains under investigation.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid Highway 111 and Thunderbird Road if possible and seek alternate routes until the investigation and traffic impacts are cleared.
