Coachella Valley Rescue Mission prepares for growing Thanksgiving demand, calls for community support

INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) – With Thanksgiving just weeks away, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is preparing to meet a growing demand for food assistance while calling on the community for support.

The organization says it is currently serving approximately 1,000 meals every day, along with distributing between 150 and 180 food boxes each Wednesday to families facing food insecurity.

Now, as the holiday season approaches, the mission is preparing for an even larger effort.

Scott Wolfe with the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission says the organization anticipates distributing as many as 3,000 Thanksgiving food boxes in the days leading up to and on Thanksgiving Day.

The mission is appealing for donations and community support to help meet that anticipated demand.

News Channel 3's Raymond Kalra is going behind the scenes inside the mission's kitchen to see what it takes to prepare hundreds of meals, how staff are keeping up with the daily demand, and what the organization needs from the community ahead of Thanksgiving.
