Banning shooting suspect arrested in Desert Hot Springs
A suspect was behind bars Wednesday, accused of shooting another man in Banning.
Mathew Clay Fisher, 21, was arrested Tuesday in Desert Hot Springs on suspicion of attempted murder and booked at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on a million dollars bail, according to the Banning Police Department.
Police responded to the 1400 block of North Eighth Street at about 1:00 p.m. on April 5 on a shots-fired call and found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound, police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital and survived, although the extent of his injuries were not released. Witnesses reported seeing a man dressed in all black carrying a handgun fleeing from the scene, according to police.
On Tuesday, Banning police and members of the Riverside County District Attorney's Office Gang Impact Team arrested Fisher on Fifth Street in Desert Hot Springs.
Police did not reveal how Fisher was named a suspect in the crime.
Fisher has no documented felony convictions in Riverside County, although he was convicted of a misdemeanor for possessing brass knuckles.
