Warmer and drier this week

High pressure gains strength over Southern California today through Tuesday. Onshore winds have shifted offshore, which means temperatures will be warmer and conditions will be drier. Gusty winds are expected to remain for the Coachella Valley through this afternoon.

Across Southern California, there are a few advisories and warnings to keep in mind. There is a Wind Advisory for areas west of the Coachella Valley through 3 p.m. this afternoon. For areas along the coast, a Heat Advisory goes into effect at 11 a.m. Tuesday and lasts through 7 p.m. Tuesday. Temperatures will be well above seasonal and even potentially reach triple digits for a couple spots. Further north, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 7 p.m. tonight. With gutsy winds and dry conditions, fire danger is elevated.

Looking at water vapor satellite imagery, oranges and darker colors indicate drier air for Southern California. Dew points in the Coachella Valley are expected to stay in the range of 10°-15°.

With gusty winds, South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a Windblown Dust Advisory through Monday afternoon. With blowing sand and dust, AQI levels have the potential to reach unhealthy levels. To keep yourself safe and limit your exposure, you can remain indoors with windows and doors closed and avoid vigorous physical activity.

Temperatures will remain in the triple digits for much of the week. Temperatures will cool back near seasonal Friday and Saturday as an area of low pressure begins to move in.
