East Valley Students Click Their Way To Learning

Coachella Valley High School students are looking up for the answers.

They use an interactive educational tool known as TurningPoint. Students use little gadgets known as “clickers” to record their answers. Then, they wait for the correct answers to appear above on the projection screen.

“It really helps me,” said junior Roger Montano. “It helps me participate more in class. Gets me excited to do it because I relate to technology.”

Science teacher Melanie Fine was the first teacher at the high school to use the clickers. She spent $1500 of her own money. She says the innovative teaching tactic makes her job easier.

“I can see how the students answered,” she said. “So, I get an immediate assessment of where my students are.”

The school was impressed by the clickers and bought five sets.

The use of clickers also allows the shyer, quieter students to participate in class.

They don’t know which classmates got the questions wrong or right. Only the teacher does.

What the students only know is who’s on top of the leader board.

Other school districts in the desert use similar gadgets.
