Expecting widespread showers during the morning commute

As of this morning, showers have already begun west of the region. Coastal areas through Los Angeles and Orange County are seeing widespread rainfall. The valley floor and local mountains are expecting widespread showers during the morning commute hours. At times, showers can be moderate to heavy. Drive cautiously through the morning and give yourself extra time to get to your location.

Showers today will become more scattered and isolated by the afternoon with another round of rainfall this evening and overnight into Tuesday.

More rain chances arrive Christmas afternoon through Thursday. Amounts are expected to stay less than half of an inch for the accumulation period through Tuesday with some areas seeing more than that as we head into Thursday.

For areas above 5000 ft. of elevation, we will see snowfall. A colder system moves in Wednesday dropping elevation closer to 4000 ft. This will be something to keep in mind if you are traveling to or through the mountains at any point during this holiday week.

Temperatures over the course of the next few days will remain below normal. We will have some warming Tuesday with a break in rainfall allowing for partly cloudy skies. Then, as cloud cover moves back and rain chances move back with a colder system Wednesday, temperatures will again drop and rain chances will be introduced by the afternoon.
