CVUSD board approves $41 million plan to give iPads to students

CVUSD Superintendent Darryl Adams announced today that their Board of Education has approved a plan to supply every student, pre-school through high school, with iPads, according to a press release from CVUSD.

Also, teachers willreceiveMacbook Air laptops, although the release does not say if every teacher will bereceivingone.

Distribution of the technology will be completed by the end of Fall 2013 and will be “fully financed by the community,” according to the release.

The cost of the project, known as the Mobile LearningInitiative, “amounts to approximately $41 million over an 8-year period,”according to the CVUSD website.

“The CVUSD communities have voted to finance a better future for their children as this initiative is a significant step toward creating a compelling learning environment for all our students,” said Superintendent Adams.”Our Measure X Mobile Learning Technology Bond, supported and endorsed by California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, passed with 68% of the vote this past November.”

CVUSD student and staff iPads will include popular and effective apps such as iWork, iLife and iTunes, in addition to anytime, anywhere access to the over 75,000 educational apps now available for iOS devices on the App Store.

Supt. Adams also stated that CVUSD is planning an iPad Rollout event in the Fall of 2013 to highlight their iPad Mobile Learning Initiative.
