‘He didn’t suffer,’ Family reacts to the murder of a father of six

A family member has identified the man killed in a shooting Tuesday night in Desert Hot Springs.

According to his sister, 35-year-old Kelly Macon was walking home from the store to his son when he was shot and killed.

"They say he didn't suffer but I don't know how many times he got shot. I don't know what he looks like. I don't know anything," said Sheniece Macon, sister of Kelly Macon.

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department said the shooting occurred Tuesday at 10 p.m. in the 66200 block of Estrella Avenue.

Macon's sister said he was the father of 6 kids. There has been no arrest in connection with the murder.

News Channel 3 talked to Macon's sister as the family is mourning the sudden loss. Kelly Macon was known to be a family man.

"He raised me and his other siblings when our mom could not," said Sheniece Macon.

His sister said the family is devastated and remembering their beloved brother and wondering how they'll get by without him.

"[They] have taken so many good men off this earth that have a chance," said Macon.

Sheniece said the family moved from Los Angeles to Desert Hot Springs to find a safer place for the family.

"We moved out here for the quiet. This is a town not a city you don't have to prove yourself out here," said Macon. "You don't have to go around being big and bad for no reason."

Desert Hot Springs Police continues the investigation and are following up with leads.

Police ask that anyone with any information contact Sgt. Weigle with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department at 760-329-2904 (ext. 285).
