Pedestrian struck, critically injured by lunch truck in Mecca

A person was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in Mecca Tuesday morning.

The pedestrian, a field worker, was apparently struck by a lunch truck near the intersection. The truck was backing up when the worker was unexpectedly struck.

The collision was reported in a field near the intersection of Hayes Street and Avenue 71 in Mecca. Responding firefighters found a single person underneath a vehicle when they arrived on scene.

The patient was transported by the California Highway Patrol H60 helicopter to an area hospital for treatment.

Two fire engines and six firefighters are on scene.
