Ron Shipley retires as head football coach at Shadow Hills

Ron Shipley has stepped down as head football coach at Shadow Hills high school.

“Starting and building this program since the inception has been a truly gratifying yet humbling experience.” Shipley statement via Desert Sand Unified School District news release Tuesday morning. “The experiences I have had with the student athletes, parents, coaches, staff members, and community members is something I will never forget.”

Shipley was with the football program for 11 years. He will stay on in his role as a physical education teacher at SHHS.

Shipley's football career is a storied one; before coming to the valley, he played for the Kansas City Chiefs and spent two years in the Canadian Football League.

Shipley previously coached and taught at La Quinta High School. He holds a teaching degree from the University of New Mexico.

According to SHHS Principal Gabriel Fajardo, Shipley's replacement has not yet been hired.
