RSO: Pair arrested on I-10 after pepper-spraying clerk, stealing jewelry

A man and a woman were taken into custody on I-10 Wednesday afternoon after allegedly pepper-spraying a clerk in a Palm Desert business then stealing a piece of jewelry.

At 12:34 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff's Department received a report of a robbery at Pawnshield Fine Jewelry and Loan at 74836 Technology Drive in Palm Desert.

According to the reporting party, an employee at the business, a woman entered the store, asked to see a piece of jewelry, then pepper-sprayed the employee. The woman then fled the location with jewelry.

The suspect's vehicle was spotted fleeing from the scene as deputies arrived.

A traffic enforcement stop was initiated by deputies on westbound Interstate 10 east of Date Palm Drive. A man and a woman were detained, which were later positively identified by the victim.

Jennifer Andrews, 36 of Yucaipa and Richard Gonzales, 28 of San Bernardino, were booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime.
